Copenhagen opens up to tourists. The city returns with a hit show

Following the success of last year's "CopenPay" program, which offered tourists discounts and free museum tickets or free coffee in exchange for environmentally friendly practices, Copenhagen is bringing back the program. This year, the capital is expanding the initiative's offering. Those who arrive in Copenhagen by train will be able to claim rewards, including free bike rentals, yoga sessions, guided tours and even discounted entry to famous sites such as the National Gallery of Denmark and The Urban Garden.

As announced, the "CopenPay" program returns to Copenhagen and will run this year from June 17 to August 17. During this year's edition, the way to get discounts is not only pro-ecological practices, but also a train trip to Copenhagen .

- The biggest impact of tourism on the climate is transport. That is why we encourage travelers to commute to Copenhagen by train and fly less often - we read on the program's official website.

Copenhagen shows what sustainable tourism is all about

The incentive to continue the program was the success of last year's pilot edition. According to Time Out, during the 4-week program , the number of bike rentals increased by 29%, tons of rubbish were collected, and 98% of participants said they would recommend it to others. The creators hope that such solutions will not only make the experience more pleasant but also motivate tourists to act more ecologically. They believe that the visible success will encourage other cities to introduce similar initiatives.

- Tourism must stop being a burden on the environment and become a force for positive change. Fortunately, tourists are very keen to get involved in such initiatives, said Søren Tegen Pedersen, CEO of Wonderful Copenhagen , in a statement. - With CopenPay, we want to raise awareness among travellers. At the same time, we provide our guests with an easy way to contribute to our city. And we hope that they leave inspired to take more responsible actions at home and on their next trip, he added.
