Dior bids farewell to Maria Grazia Chiuri. The speculation machine has started

After nine years at the helm of one of the most prestigious fashion houses in the world, Maria Grazia Chiuri is saying goodbye to Dior. The official announcement by the French fashion house ended months of speculation and opened up a new question: "Who will replace Mara Grazia Chiuri?"

Maria Grazia Chiuri took over as creative director of Dior in 2016, making history as the first woman to hold this position. Her debut collection for spring/summer 2017 already announced a new chapter – bold, socially engaged, permeated with feminism . Slogans such as " We should all be feminists " and spectacular shows inspired by art and movement became her trademark.

Under Chiuri’s direction, Dior has taken on a new identity—not just fashion-wise, but also culturally. The designer has turned the runway into a space for dialogue about femininity, strength, and independence. Now it’s time for the next chapter.

" I would like to thank Mr. Arnault for the trust he placed in me and Delphine for her support. I am particularly grateful for the work of my team and the Ateliers. Their talent and experience have allowed me to realize a vision of women's fashion in close dialogue with several generations of artists. Together we have written a significant chapter of which I am immensely proud, " she said in a statement.

The legacy of Maria Grazia Chiuri at Dior

Commercially, Maria Grazia Chiuri has been a huge success for Dior , attracting younger generations of customers, expanding the brand’s presence in global markets and maintaining high sales levels.

However, it was not without its critics. Some accused it of being repetitive, overemphasizing political messages, and being too "accessible".

Maria Grazia Chiuri - symbolic farewell in Rome

Although the designer’s departure was only confirmed at the end of May, the first signs had been appearing for months. The Cruise 2026 show , organized in the designer’s home capital of Rome , was interpreted by many as an emotional farewell.

Italian spirit, feminine strength and sensitivity came together in a show that many critics considered Chiuri's most mature and emblematic work.

Will Maria Grazia Chiuri be the new creative director of Fendi?

There is growing talk in the industry about Chiuri's possible return to Fendi – the brand where she took her first professional steps and co-created the legendary Baguette bag. Her experience, understanding of Italian aesthetics and success at Dior make her the ideal candidate.

Meanwhile, Dior is not delaying its reorganization. The brand's men's line has already been entrusted to Jonathan Anderson , a designer known for his experimental approach to fashion at Loewe . The industry is speculating that he may soon take over the women's collections as well.
