There Will Be Rambo Without Sylvester Stallone. A Reboot of the 80s Iconic Production Is in the Works

The film market around the Cannes Film Festival is a chance to present interesting new film projects. One of them, which is looking for a distributor there, is a film about the early years of John Rambo. The legendary commando created on the pages of David Morrell's novel, played on the big screen by Sylvester Stallone.

"Rambo: First Blood" from 1982 is a legendary film that established Sylvester Stallone's position among the biggest stars of the cinema of the eighties. It was in it that we met commando John Rambo , who after some time in Vietnam travels around the States to meet with his buddies from the unit. Instead, he has to deal with a hostile sheriff who treats John like a tramp.

There is still a lot left to tell in Rambo's story, first described in David Morrell's novel. When we meet him, he has been through hard service in the US military during the Vietnam War. We learn the details of his earlier adventures in short flashbacks, and now there is a chance for them to be told in a film prequel devoted to John Rambo's younger years.

With the project of the prequel of the film "Rambo: First Blood" appeared in Cannes studio Millennium Media, known among others for another franchise with the star in the main role: "The Expendables". Filming for this project is to begin in October in Thailand. The script by the creators of "Black Adam": Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani is ready . The film will be directed by Finnish specialist of action cinema: Jalmari Helander, who recently delighted fans with the war "Sisu".

"We are proud to add a new chapter to the Rambo legacy. This project is a tribute to one of the greatest action franchises of all time. It will appeal to existing and new fans. Jalmari Helander is the perfect choice to direct it," Millennium's Jonathan Yunger said.

As reported by Deadline, Sylvester Stallone is not involved with the project at this stage of work. However, the door is open for him to get involved as a producer. The details of the plot of the Rambo prequel are unknown, but it is hard to assume that it will not tell the story of the years the brave soldier spent in Vietnam.

To date, there have been five Rambo films. Together, they have grossed over $800 million.
