What About U2's Next Album? Bono Shares New Info About Anticipated Album

“We’ve recorded it, but we’re not done with it yet,” Bono said of U2’s upcoming album. It will be the band’s 15th, following 2017’s “Songs of Experience.” Bono did not reveal when the new record will see the light of day.
Bono and his bandmates have no intention of slowing down. After a six-month residency in Las Vegas, they focused on working on their next album. There has been a lot of talk about this one for some time now. First, Bono announced that the band's next album would be packed with guitar riffs and would clearly reach back to the roots of rock. Later, the band's guitarist, The Edge, confirmed that the guitar would be the dominant instrument on the album, but he disagreed with the message that the album would satisfy the tastes of classic rock fans.
The musicians are still experimenting, reaching for new sounds, immersing themselves in Irish folk music, so that their next album will be filled with compositions with a unique sound. Where will these musical experiments lead U2? It is not known.
Bono, who was promoting the documentary "Bono: Stories of Surrender" at the Cannes Film Festival , confirmed that the band is still working on the album . However, he could not indicate when the final result of that work can be expected.
"Nostalgia shouldn't be tolerated for too long, but sometimes you have to face the past to get to the future and the present. We're recording. And to me, that sounds like the future, " Bono told Rolling Stone.
Bono reassures fans that there will certainly be no shortage of rock on the album.
"Trying to capture a rock 'n' roll band in full flight is the heart of the record we're making, that we've recorded but not finished, " he explained.
The singer also announced that U2 drummer Larry Mullen , who underwent back surgery in 2023, is working with the band again.
"Larry is completely back on his feet. His playing is at its most innovative right now," Bono said.
