Aerodays 2025 in Warsaw - Europe focuses on sustainable development of aviation

The sustainable development and importance of civil aviation for the defence sector and the space programme, as well as the role that aviation plays in society, were discussed on Wednesday during the opening of Aerodays 2025 in Warsaw – a major European event for the aviation sector.

During the European Aeronautics Days (Aerodays 2025), between 7 and 9 May, over a thousand representatives of industry, science and politics from all over Europe will meet to talk about the future of aviation – its role in the economy, security and climate transformation.

During the opening of the conference, a speech by the EU Commissioner for Defence and Space, Andrius Kubilius, was presented. He emphasised the importance of the aviation industry for Europe's security. "Your work is very important for the future of Europe," he addressed the conference guests. In his opinion, there is no defence or space industry without the development of civil aviation. "We cannot defend Europe without you," he addressed the representatives of the aviation sector.

In his speech, Kubilius announced the intensification of EU actions to support the arms industry in order to deter Russia and prevent war. He noted that Russia is producing weapons on an “alarming scale” and action is needed.

Present at the opening of Aerodays 2025, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education Prof. Andrzej Szeptycki recalled that according to forecasts, in 2025 the global revenues of the aviation industry will exceed one trillion dollars (one thousand billion), and that over 5.2 billion passengers will use the services of carriers this year. He added that this is an increase of 4.4% compared to 2024.

"Aviation not only enables fast international transport of passengers and goods, but is an important factor in integrating economies and societies," the minister noted. He recalled that this sector enables cultural, scientific and business mobility on an unprecedented scale.

He also praised the role of this sector in the development of materials engineering, navigation, research on alternative fuels and propulsion systems. Szeptycki noted that Polish research institutions, including the Institute of Aviation, are playing an increasingly important role in international research and development projects. Aerodays, he pointed out, is an important platform for the exchange of experiences and the development of solutions supporting the development of the sector.

Dr. Eng. Sylwester Wyka, acting director of the Łukasiewicz – Institute of Aviation commented: "The fact that world experts from the aviation industry meet in Poland is proof that the aviation industry in our country plays an important role in European programs, consortia and in the debate on the future of support for this sector in the next Framework Program."

Aerodays 2025 is taking place in Poland for the first time in history. The event's motto this year is "Europe leading in aviation: sustainable development and competitiveness of aviation in a changing world". This scientific and business conference is cyclically initiated by the European Commission. This year it is organized as part of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The Polish Press Agency is the media patron of the event. (PAP)
