Amazon Web Services to Invest $4 Billion in Chile, Will Use Only Green Energy

Amazon Web Services, the cloud computing division of the American corporation , will invest $4 billion in Chile to build and develop database infrastructure.

This new region will include several data centers and will be the third in Latin America after Brazil and Mexico. Due to the high interest from future customers, the investment has been accelerated by several months. The launch is scheduled for the second half of 2026.

The growth in the number of data centers raises concerns about the consumption of large amounts of electricity, as well as water, which is a scarce commodity in Chile.

AWS allays these concerns by explaining that 100% of the energy used will come from renewable sources, primarily solar farms.

In the case of water , new solutions will be used to recover water from ventilation and cooling systems, which means that over the course of a year its consumption will be at the level of eight households.

AWS already has 36 cloud regions worldwide and 114 access zones for its customers. Global companies include General Electric, Sony, and Netflix.
