On Friday night, Iga Świątek defeated Eva Lys 6-2, 6-2, comfortably advancing to the fourth round of the WTA 1000 in Montreal. The Pole and German's match lasted 74 minutes, yet it was still by far the longest of any of the three matches the two women have played together in their careers. In Canada, Belinda Bencic's (20th WTA) match against Karolina Muchová (14th WTA) had begun an hour earlier, yet the Swiss and Czech were still playing when the Pole had long since left the locker room.

The first set between Bencic and Muchova was particularly close. After back-and-forth breaks, a tiebreak was necessary, which the Swiss won 7-6 (2). The Czech then turned the tables, winning 6-2, 6-3. Despite the clear advantage, the match was close in almost every game. The match lasted nearly three hours.
