Cincinnati. Another tournament without Hubert Hurkacz
The news of his withdrawal from the tournament in Cincinnati came around 10:00 PM Polish time on July 22nd. Australian Christopher O'Connell stepped into the main draw to replace the Pole.
Hubert Hurkacz is still not ready to play after arthroscopic surgery on his injured knee. The procedure took place during Wimbledon, where he also missed the tournament. The Pole has announced that he won't be returning to the courts anytime soon and will require a lengthy rehabilitation. He last played on June 11th at the ATP 250 tournament in 's-Hertogenbosch. He won that match against Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut, but his health deteriorated during that match, forcing him to withdraw from his next match against Marek Lajala.
This means the Pole won't be able to defend his points from last year's performance in Cincinnati, where he reached the quarterfinals. This means he will likely drop out of the top 50 of the ATP rankings.
