It's done! This is what the WTA rankings look like after Coco Gauff's overnight loss

Iga Świątek's triumph at Wimbledon had a colossal impact. Although she briefly dropped out of the top five in the WTA rankings, she quickly re-entered the rankings, overtaking Jessica Pegula and returning to third place. Aryna Sabalenka's withdrawal from the Montreal tournament left the London champion with a chance to return to second place among the world's best tennis players.

Two conditions had to be met: Coco Gauff couldn't reach the semifinals in Canada, and Iga Świątek would have to win the entire tournament. Today, we know for sure that the American has bowed out of the Montreal tournament after losing to Victoria Mboko . This is crucial for Świątek's future chances. Here's how she currently stands in the WTA rankings.

Coco Gauff's defeat has serious consequences. Here's the live WTA rankings.

It's worth noting that the live rankings don't include what will happen on Monday. Gauff will then lose 120 points for his result in Canada last year, as the tournament was held later than this season. This was due to the Olympic Games in Paris, which pushed the Canadian tournament back slightly in the tennis calendar.

And although the graphic below shows Gauff with 7,789 points, she will realistically have only 7,669 points left on Monday. This is the result of the upcoming point deduction. Iga Świątek, however, won't lose a single point, and her gap to Gauff will be 736 points in the worst-case scenario. But that's not all.

Everything will now be in the Pole's hands, and each subsequent victory will bring her significantly closer to returning to second place. The tournament will conclude on Thursday, August 7th, when we will see the final. If Świątek wins, she will appear just behind Aryna Sabalenka (who will be defending a record 3,000 points in Cincinnati and the US Open) in the next WTA rankings.

Possible scenarios for Iga Świątek in Montreal:

  • elimination in the fourth round - 6933 points
  • advancement to the quarterfinals - 7028 points
  • advancement to the semi-finals - 7203 points
  • advancement to the final - 7463 points
  • victory in the final - 7813 points and advancement to second place in the WTA ranking
