As a reminder, the Polish runners-up are competing in the Champions Basketball League qualifiers. However, they face a daunting task there. The tournament will take place in Bulgaria from September 20-24, and PGE Start faces UCAM Murcia, a very strong representative of the Spanish top league, in the quarterfinals. It won't be any easier after that, as they must defeat two more opponents. Only the winner of the Samokov tournament will qualify for the Champions Basketball League. This team will be placed in Group B, along with the famous German powerhouse Alba Berlin, Czech team ERA Nymburk, and Azerbaijani team Sabah BC.

It's hard to believe the "red and black" will make it to the elite group they've always dreamed of. If they fail to cause a stir, they'll be relegated to the FIBA Europe Cup, a less prestigious competition organized by FIBA. There, they've been drawn into Group A, and their opponents will be Spain's UCAM Murcia and Bulgaria's Rilski Sportist. The third opponent will be the better of the pairing Kangoeroes Basket Mechelen (Belgium) and KK Bosna BH Telecom (Bosnia and Herzegovina). The Mechelen team is the clear favorite in this clash, so it's safe to assume they'll be the one to advance to Group A. It's also worth noting that Start's opponents could still change. This will depend on the results of the Basketball Champions League qualifiers, which will feature PGE Start, UCAM, and Rilski. While the Poles and Bulgarians aren't the favorites, the Spaniards are aiming for promotion to the BCL. If they succeed, they will be joined by one of the teams that lost their FIBA Europe Cup qualifying matches. Anwil Włocławek is also competing in the qualifiers. However, the Polish team faced BC Bashkimi of Kosovo, whom they should defeat without any major problems.
