Robert Lewandowski vs. PZPN? Another scandal revealed

What is it? The Polish Football Association, or more precisely the Director of the Communication and Media Department Tomasz Kozłowski versus Robert Lewandowski's entourage. "Lewy" has been a national football asset for years, looking at how much he has done for the Polish national team in terms of sport. It turns out, however, that it was not only the fact of friction with the (now) former coach that could have had a negative impact on the relationship between RL9 and the football federation.
"Lewy" in conflict with PZPN? Surprising news from the mediaThe aforementioned director Kozłowski was the recipient of strong words from the former president of the Polish Football Association, a legend of Polish football, Zbigniew Boniek. "Zibi", while guesting on the Sport Channel, did not mince his words in a conversation with Mateusz Borek in the context of the role that Kozłowski played in the puzzle during the rule of Michał Probierz.
– Michał is leaving this team in ruins. I can't imagine that a new coach will come in now and that Kozłowski will be responsible for communication. That would be death for the coach right from the start – commented Boniek.
As Wojciech Górski from Weszło.com reported, it is not only "Zibi" who looks suspiciously at director Kozłowski. The relationship with the former captain of the national team's close circle is also at stake. And as we know, Robert Lewandowski strongly trusts people with whom he has been cooperating for years.
"According to people close to the Barcelona sniper, only Probierz had knowledge of the arrival. Meanwhile, on the eve of the meeting, this information was published in the tabloid Fakt, whose head of the political department was in the past... Kozłowski. And it is he who is indicated by Lewandowski's circle as the source of the leak [...] The 37-year-old's camp also accuses that Kozłowski, as the director of communications, was involved in building a narrative attacking the then captain of the national team," we read in Górski's aforementioned text.
Unfortunately, such signals do not bode well in the context of "Lewy's" potential return to the national team. The question remains unanswered as to what the reality actually looks like. However, clear messages from figures such as Boniek should certainly not be underestimated.
Michał Probierz resigned from his role as coach of the Polish national teamIt is worth recalling that Michał Probierz became the coach of the Polish national team in September 2023. The Polish coach replaced Fernando Santos in this position. The Portuguese, the European champion in 2016, compromised himself in his work in Poland. Probierz, previously the coach of the U-21 team (from July 2022), was given several tasks to perform, with short and long deadlines.
Ultimately, Probierz advanced to Euro 2024, although not directly, but after winning the matches in the play-off phase for the tournament in Germany. However, the Poles managed to gain only one point at the European Championship and were eliminated after the group games. In addition, the Poles failed to stay in Division A of the Nations League, losing the decisive match at the PGE National Stadium with Scotland (1:2).
In the case of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, the Polish team performed very averagely. After narrow victories over much lower-ranked teams, Lithuania (1:0) and Malta (2:0), last Tuesday (June 10), Poland lost away to Finland (1:2).
In addition, there was the so-called armband scandal, as a result of which Robert Lewandowski was stripped of the role of captain over the phone(!), then "Lewy" resigned from playing in the national team - as long as Probierz was the coach - and finally the coach himself resigned from his job.
