She's retired, but she'll keep playing! The tennis star surprised

In mid-July, Eugenie Bouchard announced her retirement. She announced that she would bid farewell to tennis by competing in a WTA tournament in Montreal. The Canadian entered the competition and pulled off quite a surprise.
Eugenie Bouchard was considered a great talent. And with good reason. In 2014, she reached the Wimbledon final and the semifinals of the Australian Open and Roland Garros. She was ranked fifth in the world.

The following years, however, weren't quite as promising for the Canadian. Her development was significantly hampered by injuries, and she struggled to play consistently almost every year.
Bouchard has played one match this season, losing to Anna Sinclair Rogers on July 8 at the WTA 125 event in Newport.
A week later, the Canadian announced her retirement. She announced that her farewell would be the WTA 1000 event in Montreal.
"I hope it will feel like a celebration, not a funeral," Bouchard said before the start of the competition, as quoted by the WTA website.
In the first round of her home tournament, the Canadian faced 82nd-ranked Colombian Emiliana Arango. After a fierce contest – 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 – the home team emerged victorious.
"It was electrifying! I had a blast. I'm so proud of how I performed. I fought and stayed focused throughout the match," said Bouchard, who won her 300th career victory, after the match.
The Canadian will face Belinda Bencic in the second round of the Omnium Banque Nationale. The two women have played each other three times so far, with the Swiss winning each time.
