This is what Wojciech Szczęsny shouted. He repeated one word
The hit of the Spanish games started without Robert Lewandowski on the pitch. In the game we saw Szczęsny, who was shown from the beginning by the cameraman. Unfortunately, these were moments when the ball had to be picked out of the net twice at the beginning of the match. After Atletico's massive attacks, it was difficult to find fault with the 34-year-old.
Thanks to Pedri, Pau Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez, the Blaugrana were leading 3-2 at half-time, and after a turn of events, Lewandowski appeared on the pitch. The Pole scored for 4-2, but after a goal from Diego Simeone's team, things started to get tense.
Szczęsny with a clear message to his teammates from Barcelona. One wordThe Polish goalkeeper decided to give a short but very clear message to his defenders and the rest of the team. As journalist Dawid Szymczak from Sport.pl noticed during the match, Szczęsny kept repeating to them: "calma, calmma" [Spanish for calm, calm]. Then, when he had the ball in his hands, he tried not to pass it to the defenders right away, waiting for the team to return to their formation and calm their heads.
He also used similar gestures and words in previous matches. A GIF with the Pole has even become an internet hit, showing the team to calm down and not behave too hastily on the pitch. The goalkeeper's calmness, especially after returning from retirement, is already iconic.
"He is the definition of personality," we read in a fan's comment under the now famous video.
Unfortunately, the calm was not maintained and Barcelona played nervously until the end of the first semi-final. In added time, after a pass past the defensive line, Szczęsny was left alone with three opponents. It seemed that he had no chance, but after Sorloth's shot he had the ball in his hands. It hit the goalkeeper's fingers, but broke them. It was centimetres short and the former Polish international would have been hailed as a great hero in Catalonia. It ended in a 4:4 draw and the matter of the rematch scheduled for April 2 remains open.
