A new trend among Generation Z. What does it symbolize and why does it concern Gen Z Stare?

A new trend among Generation Z. What does it symbolize and why does it concern Gen Z Stare?

Each generation has its own style, its own films, its own music… It also has its own distinctive behaviors. Generation Z does too. What is the popular "Gen Z Stare" trend on TikTok, and what does it say about the "Z" generation?

"Every generation has its own voice, every generation wants to believe in something," sings Grzegorz Skawiński in one of Kombia's biggest hits. And he's right. But each generation also has something different, behaviors unique to it.

Have you heard of the "Gen Z Stare" ? That long, emotionless stare that Gen Zs give in various social situations, especially in the workplace: as a greeting or when trying to strike up small talk . It became so iconic that it quickly started being used in TikTok videos, and then, of course, quickly became a trend.

Of course, representatives of other generations immediately took this behavior under the microscope and quickly passed judgment. Critics believe that the "Gen Z gaze" signifies boredom , indifference , but also superiority towards older people .

Is "Gen Z Stare" more than just a sign of rebellion?

Joe Galvin from Vintage , in an interview with Forbes , says that this would be an oversimplification.

- Like earlier phenomena, such as quiet quitting , it highlights a broader problem of today's labor market and the growing intergenerational misunderstandings in terms of communication and expectations towards employees - he admits.

Galvin notes that the characteristic looks may not necessarily stem from rebellion , but rather from the Zs' limited exposure to real social interactions .

The culprit here, in a sense, is the pandemic , during which meetings took place online, and films , concerts and even exhibitions were watched on computer and phone screens.

Generation Z full of fears?

If you look at it this way, "Gen Z Old" might be driven by insecurity and fear, although that's the last thing older people usually see.

- Misreading body language can lead to misunderstandings, frustration and missed opportunities to connect - assures Joe Galvin .

Therefore, "Gen Z Stare" is obviously a good inspiration for another funny TikTok video, but it can also open up a discussion about intergenerational dialogue . Above all, however, it shows that maybe we don't need to constantly condemn this poor Generation Z ?
