It is not true that the European Space Agency (ESA) does not allow the use of its mission emblems. ESA mission emblems and the ESA logo are protected as intellectual property and their use is subject to certain conditions, ESA said in a statement sent to PAP on Friday.
ESA sent a statement, recalling media reports in recent days suggesting that the agency does not allow the use of its mission emblems. "We would like to clarify that this is not true," the statement said.
"The ESA mission emblems and the ESA logo are protected as intellectual property and their use is subject to certain conditions," it explained.
According to ESA information, it allows, among other things, educational and informational use of the mission emblems. The emblems can be used without prior explicit consent for non-commercial, educational and informational purposes, provided that certain requirements are met. These conditions are described in the regulations for the use of ESA materials - the agency informed.
In the case of non-commercial use of the ESA logo, prior consent is required - by sending a special form.
Those wishing to use the ESA logo and mission emblems commercially must obtain a licence. Permission can be sought by completing an online form that describes the applicable licence conditions.
"ESA is committed to enabling society to engage in our missions and share the excitement of space exploration. We encourage responsible and compliant use of our mission emblems and logos under the applicable licensing system," it said in a statement. (PAP)
