'I've never seen this before,' says doorman who called the police after woman was punched 61 times

Summary: A doorman calls the police after witnessing a woman being punched 61 times in an elevator; the attacker was arrested and the victim underwent facial repair surgery.

Doorman Manoel Anésio, 60, who called the police in the case of the woman who was attacked by her boyfriend, basketball player Igor Eduardo Pereira Cabral, with 61 punches to the face , says he had never seen a scene like that.

"I've never seen this kind of thing," he said. "I think anyone in my shoes would do the same thing [call the police]. At our company, we're trained for this, we have this kind of experience," he said in an interview with Inter TV Cabugi on Friday, the 1st.

According to Anésio, he saw movement inside the elevator, but only realized that Juliana Garcia dos Santos Soares , 35, was downstairs when she got up. "I could see her bloody face. Then the elevator opened and she got out."

Upon seeing the scene, the doorman helped the woman and called the police. "I went immediately, I called the police, they arrived quickly and thank God they took him away," he recalls.

On Friday, Juliana underwent surgery to 'restore the shape and function of her face' . The information was confirmed by the Onofre Lopes University Hospital (Huol), of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN).

The procedure, called osteosynthesis, was performed by a multidisciplinary team comprising dental surgeons specializing in oral and maxillofacial surgery and traumatology, as well as anesthesiologists and nursing professionals.

The victim underwent an evaluation by the team on Thursday, the 31st. Kerlison Paulino de Oliveira -- a dental surgeon and specialist in oral and maxillofacial surgery and traumatology at the unit -- states that Juliana responded well to the initial treatment, according to a note.

"It is progressing satisfactorily, with the hematoma and edema regressing, and still with some pain resulting from the fractures in the middle and lower third of the face, although controlled with common analgesics," reported the person responsible for the procedure.

After the procedure, she will continue to be monitored by the hospital team until she fully recovers. The initial estimated recovery time is two days in the hospital, with adjustments possible depending on her clinical progress.

Man arrested after assaulting girlfriend with 61 punches inside elevator in Natal (RN):

Defense requested isolation cell for attacker

The 29-year-old former basketball player was transferred to a prison unit in the Rio Grande do Norte Penitentiary System, according to the State Secretariat of Penitentiary Administration (Seap).

Igor was arrested in flagrante delicto last Saturday, 26th, shortly after assaulting Juliana in the elevator of a high-end condominium in Natal (RN).

The prisoner was released from the Reception and Screening Center (CRT) in Parnamirim, a gateway to the prison system, to the Dinorá Sinas Public Jail in Ceará-Mirim, Greater Natal. He is being held in pretrial detention, and his defense says he is at the disposal of the authorities.

"The inmate was placed in an appropriately secure wing to preserve the physical integrity of the inmates and ensure the operational stability of the unit," Seap said in a statement. The department also confirmed that, although the inmate is alone in a cell, he will not be held in a single cell, as there are no single cells at the Ceará-Mirim Public Jail.

"Seap emphasizes that all transfers of people deprived of liberty, as well as the definition of custody location, follow strict criteria that consider the security of the prison system, the profile of the detainee and the need to guarantee order and discipline in prison units," the ministry concluded.

Previously, the former athlete's defense had asked the court to place him in an isolated cell , citing a risk to his physical safety. The defense stated that he has been receiving threats, including from members of the criminal faction known as the "Crime Syndicate." *(With information from Estadão Conteúdo).
