Algarve at maximum risk of rural fires

Almost all municipalities in the Algarve are currently at maximum risk of rural fires, according to data from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) . Only the municipalities of Olhão, Faro, Albufeira, and Lagoa are at moderate risk.
According to IPMA, the risk of fire in the region is expected to remain high in the coming days.
The rural fire danger index has five levels – from low to high – and is calculated based on air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and rainfall over the last 24 hours.
With the exception of the Algarve, mainland Portugal is under a yellow warning.
