August 10 Philharmonic Society turns 145

The Dez de Agosto Philharmonic Society, also known as "The Stubborn," celebrates its 145th anniversary this Sunday. The anniversary is marked with a lecture, tributes, and performances. "The anniversary will be as expected. It won't even be a formal event, it will be a celebration among friends," said Sansão Coelho, president of the Sociedade Filarmónica Dez de Agosto board of directors, speaking to DIARIO AS BEIRAS. The honorees are the provider of the Misericórdia-Obra da Figueira, Joaquim de Sousa, the former firefighter José António Teixeira and the Casa Rádio bookstore.

Sansão Coelho justified the tribute to Casa Rádio "due to its long history." José António Teixeira, who performed important operational roles in the Figueira da Foz Volunteer Fire Department, is honored for his volunteer work and for "serving the community" as a photographer.
