Book about Algarve gastronomy with recipes by Noélia Jerónimo arrives in Portugal

«Algarve – Uma Viagem Culinária», already awarded internationally, highlights stories, faces and flavors from the south of Portugal. Sold out in German-speaking countries, it will arrive in Portugal on September 29th with a limited edition.
The book «Algarve – Uma Viagem Culinária» will be launched in Portugal in a bilingual edition (Portuguese and English), on September 29, 2025, with limited distribution.
The book brings together more than 70 recipes and 25 life stories, revealing an authentic Algarve, through its faces, trades and flavors — in a narrative enriched with more than 300 photographs.
With editorial coordination by Marianne Salentin-Träger and text by journalist Rita Henss, this work has already been distinguished with seven international awards, including the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards and the ITB BookAwards.
The first edition sold out quickly in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
Among the book's main contributions is the chef from Tavira, Noélia Jerónimo, who has created more than 30 recipes.
“This book is much more than a collection of recipes. It is a living expression of our roots, the flavours of our childhood and our respect for our origins”, says the chef, who says she put “her whole soul” into this project.
In addition to Noélia Jerónimo, other important names in regional gastronomy will be participating, such as João Marreiros, Hans Neuner, José Pinheiro, Nélia Nunes, Vasco Prudêncio, Ana Fonseca and Isabel Ramos.
The publication covers the Algarve from Aljezur to Vila Real de Santo António, passing through places such as Monchique, Loulé, Tavira, Olhão, Lagos and Portimão. Characters such as fishermen, shellfish gatherers, winemakers, artisans and chefs are portrayed, with images that capture the territory, gestures and light of the region.
Divided into five chapters — Water, Earth, Soul, Knowledge and Flavor —, the book aims to be more than a culinary record. “Each story, each face, each recipe is a celebration of the authenticity of this land,” emphasizes editor Marianne Salentin-Träger.
The Portuguese and English edition will be available from September 29th at selected points of sale, and can already be pre-ordered online for 45 euros. After the release, the price will be 50 euros.
The 456-page work features graphic design by Oliver Hick-Schulz, photography by Markus Bassler and Anja Jahn, illustrations by Angela Ferreira (Kruella d'Enfer) and translation by Rosa Bauer (Portuguese) and Lucy Jones and Galina Green (English).
The project was sponsored by Annabell Pohl, whose connection to the Algarve spans three decades.
