Caixa begins depositing FGTS profits from 2025; see the amount and how to know if the deposit was made

Caixa Econômica Federal has begun distributing profits from the FGTS (Service Time Guarantee Fund) for 2025. R$12.9 billion will be paid to 134 million workers with a balance in their account on December 31, 2024.

The amount corresponds to 95% of the results obtained with the fund last year, of R$ 13.6 billion. The distribution occurs after approval by the FGTS Board of Trustees, in a meeting on Thursday (24), and after the publication of a resolution, this Friday (25), confirming the measure.

With the distribution, the FGTS profitability will be 6.05%, 1.16% above the inflation measured by the IPCA (Broad National Consumer Price Index) in 2024, of 4.83%, and will comply with the decision of the STF (Supreme Federal Court) when judging ADI (Direct Action of Unconstitutionality) 5,090.

The Supreme Court determined, in June 2024, that the remuneration of FGTS accounts must be 3% per year plus TR (Reference Rate), plus the FGTS profit, guaranteeing workers at least the inflation measured by the IPCA.

When the distribution doesn't cover inflation, the board must find a way to compensate. Since 2017, however, when the money began to be paid out, only one year has the return exceeded inflation. That was in 2021, when the IPCA reached 10.06%.

In 2024, there was a 41% drop in FGTS results compared to 2023, although profits were the second highest in five years, according to Caixa. The reason is believed to be linked to home investments that year, including investments related to Porto Maravilha, in Rio de Janeiro.

The Severance Indemnity Fund (Fundo de Garantia do Tempo de Serviço) was created in 1966 as a savings plan to protect workers in the event of dismissal, illness, or retirement. At the time, it was an alternative to the end of job security for formal professionals.

The fund is made up of a monthly deposit of 8% of the worker's salary, made by the company to whom he is hired under the CLT (Consolidation of Labor Laws) regime.

The law also allows the funds to be used for housing, which includes not only real estate financing but also basic sanitation and urban infrastructure. Caixa also uses the funds for microcredit operations.

The amounts will be credited to 235 million accounts that had a balance on December 31, 2024. When credited to the account, the information will appear on the FGTS statement as "AC CRED DIST RESULTADO ANO BASE 12/2024".

Since payment processing is still ongoing, funds are expected to be available gradually. Checks will be made as payments are made, and everyone will be able to see their credits in the coming days.

The amount cannot be withdrawn, except in situations permitted by law, such as retirement, serious illness, purchase of a home and unfair dismissal.

The consultation is done through the FGTS statement, which can be downloaded via the mobile app. You can also obtain a copy of the statement at Caixa branches. Each company where the employee was hired has a linked account; you need to check the amount in each account and add up the total.

  • Open or download the FGTS app (for the first access, you need to create a password)
  • Click "Sign in to the app"
  • The phrase "FGTS wants to use caixa.gov.br to log in" will appear; click "Continue"
  • Enter your CPF and click "Next"
  • Enter your password and click "Log in"; if you don't remember it, click "Recover password"
  • On the home screen, information about the companies you have worked for will appear.
  • The balance of the current company or the last company appears at the top of the screen; it is the first one; click on it to see the movements
  • To save the data, click on "Generate PDF statement", just below the balance, and save it on your cell phone.
  • To see all the companies you've worked for, go to "View all your accounts" on the home page.
  • Click on each company to open the statement; on each screen, the total balance will appear.

In addition to the FGTS statement available in the Guarantee Fund app, it is also possible to access the document through internet banking, for Caixa customers.

Non-customers and those who don't have the app will only be able to access the information on business days at Caixa Econômica Federal branches. At the on-site service, you can request a printout of your FGTS statement.

With the profit distribution, the profitability of FGTS linked accounts will be 6.05%, adding 3% per year plus the TR (Reference Rate) plus the profit distribution. This value will be 1.16% above the inflation recorded in the same period, which was 4.83%, complying with the Supreme Court's ruling.

To find out how much they will receive, the worker can multiply the balance in their FGTS account on December 31, 2024 by the index 0.02042919.

How much profit has the FGTS already distributed?

The distribution of FGTS results began in 2017, when the Michel Temer government passed a law to comply with the legislation that created the fund, which states that the results must be distributed among the shareholders, who are the workers.

By law, at least 50% must be distributed. This year, the FGTS pays out 95% of profits, and in 2024, it paid out 65%, a year in which the fund's profits were record.
