The Gynecology and Obstetrics emergency department at the Caldas da Rainha Hospital will be closed next weekend, according to information released this Friday on the National Health Service (SNS) website and published by Lusa.

On Saturday, the 9th, four Gynecology and Obstetrics emergency departments in the country will be closed—including the one in Caldas da Rainha, along with units in Aveiro, Almada, and Vila Franca de Xira. On Sunday, the 10th, this number will rise to five, with the closures remaining in Caldas da Rainha, along with those in Almada, Aveiro, Vila Franca de Xira, and Setúbal.

According to data consulted by Lusa news agency, the restrictions also affect pediatric services, with the Vila Franca de Xira emergency room closed throughout the weekend. Other units will be open, but only for cases referred by the National Emergency Department (INEM) or the SNS 24 line, such as the Obstetrics emergency rooms in Santarém and the Gynecology and Obstetrics emergency rooms in Leiria, Braga, São Francisco Xavier (Lisbon), and Amadora-Sintra, during specific hours.

The limited emergency room staffing levels are due to a lack of specialist doctors, a situation that is exacerbated during the summer months. Health authorities urge the public to contact the SNS 24 Hotline (808 24 24 24) before going to a hospital for appropriate guidance.
