Carlos Galinho Pires's film script is among the best

The film script “Downburst”, a feature-length adaptation of the short story “Inferno” from the book “De Conto a Romance – Volume 3” by Carlos Galinho Pires, a native of Guarda , was selected for the prestigious The Hot 100 list of the Capital Fund Screenplay Competition.

Previously, this screenplay was a quarterfinalist in the Outstanding Screenplays Feature Competition 2024 and the New York International Screenplay Awards – NYISA 2025, a semifinalist in the Emerging Screenwriters Screenplay Competition 2024, the Los Angeles International Screenplay Awards Fall 2023, and the Filmmatic Drama Screenplay Awards Season 9, and was named Best Screenplay at the Action/Fantasy/Sci-Fi/Thriller Festival (November 2024). Additionally, it was twice in the monthly top 20 in the action film category of the renowned The Red List, which recognizes screenplays worldwide after aggregating scores from various competitions.

This time, the competition promoted by film and television investors chose this script to be included in the list of the 100 best scripts of 2025 of the Capital Fund Screenplay Competition, which will be presented in several international markets, including AFM, Cannes, Berlin, Toronto and Shanghai.

"This achievement makes me very happy, not only because one of my screenplays was selected for this top 100, which is restricted worldwide, and which normally only includes professional screenwriters, but also because it will allow for more direct and active exposure to industry investors in various international markets, bringing me closer to achieving my dream of seeing this film produced," emphasizes Carlos Galinho Pires.

The story was partially based on the great Pedrógão Grande fire of 2017, unfolding around several civil protection professionals who try to fight and survive a gigantic fire that causes the "downburst" phenomenon, while a journalist investigates its origins, which are linked to a conspiracy involving economic interests.
