Failure of the State Budget does not automatically imply dissolution of Parliament. António José Seguro presents candidacy for Belém

Failure of the State Budget does not automatically imply dissolution of Parliament. António José Seguro presents candidacy for Belém

“I want to make it clear that the rejection of the State Budget does not automatically imply the dissolution of Parliament”, stated the former secretary-general of the PS at the presentation of the candidacy for Belém, which took place this Sunday at the Centro Cultural de Congressos das Caldas da Rainha, in the district of Leiria.

António José Seguro argues that the “country cannot go from one election to another every year and a half, nor have temporary governments”, warning that “temporary governments lead Portugal in the future”.

“I am prepared to promote conciliation and the necessary compromises to change Portugal”, he said, arguing that “Portugal needs to change, and a lot, starting with the way politics is done”.

For the candidate, “managing the situation is no longer enough, nor is it a way to govern”, and “a national project is needed, consensual, participated by everyone, regardless of who is in government”.

“The country needs to have a direction, it can’t go in zigzags. Portugal needs a direction, not just a government. We need project-based governments, not shifting governments,” he added.

The candidate for head of state also considered that the revision of the Constitution is not a priority issue at this time and proposed a “pact for prosperity”, pointing out the need for a “mobilizing national project”.

“The priority is to promote people's access to housing and health care on time, the priority is to create wealth so that there are better salaries and better pensions, the priority is to enable the country to support our companies, so that young people settle and do not emigrate”, he listed.

Seguro considered that “the country needs a mobilizing national project, a direction and a strategy”.

“I propose and will commit myself to this goal: Pact for Prosperity. This will be my priority agenda, involving all political parties, social partners, universities and all interested parties”, he indicated.
