Folk Cantanhede comes of age in the defense of popular culture

It began on July 8, 2006 and, in 2025, it will reach “adulthood”. The 18th edition of Folk Cantanhede-International Folklore Week kicked off on Saturday, with the official opening ceremony coloring the surroundings of the Bairrada local authority building, as well as the Cloisters of the Town Hall.
Until next Sunday, July 13th, the festival promises to involve the entire municipality of Cantanhede, and beyond, in the celebration of popular culture, peace and fraternity between different peoples.
This year's edition has around 300 participants, who will showcase part of the popular heritage of 11 countries: Albania, Argentina, Bulgaria, Czechia, Chile, Ivory Coast, Costa Rica, Spain, Poland and Portugal.
The organization, in charge of the Cancioneiro de Cantanhede Folklore Group, expects the presence of 55 thousand spectators in 30 shows, cultural moments that will take place in all parishes of the municipality of Cantanhede and in neighboring municipalities such as Montemor-o-Velho (Arazede) and Vagos.
