Government approves measures to liberalize and simplify electric mobility

The Government today approved a set of measures to liberalize electric mobility, facilitating the charging of electric vehicles and eliminating the role of the marketer.
At today's Council of Ministers, a set of measures were approved to facilitate the charging of electric vehicles, namely making it possible to go to any station and not just where there is a contract and eliminating the role of the marketer.
The set of changes aims to "make it as easy for drivers of electric vehicles to charge their cars as it is today to go to a gas station", thus advancing the "liberalization and simplification of electric mobility", announced the Minister of the Presidency at the press conference after the meeting.
The solutions include "no longer needing to have a contract with an electricity supplier and being able to go to a filling station, charge and pay using normal electronic payment methods" and, therefore, "no need to have a prior contract".
It will also be possible for "those with an electric vehicle to go to any charging station and not just where there is a contract with a certain supplier", he indicated, as well as "allowing for a standardization of the counting units so that prices are comparable".
The Government will also "allow supply units to also be units with production for self-consumption" and for shipments to be bidirectional so that excess capacity can be supplied.
António Leitão Amaro also said that the changes will allow "eliminating the role of the electric mobility marketer: we can achieve, in addition to increasing competition and freedom of activity, allowing us to lower the prices of charging electric vehicles, which in Portugal are high, compared to other countries".
The minister said that this is a "set of measures that liberalize, increase access, facilitate the charging of electric vehicles", representing "important solutions that will expand access and facilitate the spread of electric vehicles".
