Helena Barril re-candidates for the PSD for the Miranda do Douro City Council

“I see this invitation from the council as a vote of confidence, not only in myself, but also in the other two councillors who are joining me in the municipal executive for a second term as mayor. This project, which began in 2021, only makes sense if we are the three elements”, the social-democratic candidate for the Miranda do Douro Council told Lusa.
Helena Barril also added that “you don’t change a winning team” and the current local government executive “is ready for new challenges”.
The candidate and current mayor of Miranda do Douro highlighted the completion of projects such as the Center for the Enhancement and Improvement of Native Breeds, an investment of 1.2 million euros that will provide scientific support for national livestock farming.
Another highlight by Helena Barril was the recent de-allocation of the National Ecological Reserve (REN) for the construction of a hotel unit by the Vila Galé group, in Miranda do Douro.
In the future, other projects that the candidate would like to see include the inclusion of the Pauliteiros Dances in the Miranda festivities as part of the heritage of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
According to Helena Barril, in the first phase, the Pauliteiros dances at the Miranda do Douro festivals have already been registered in the National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage, and the next step will be to fight for the registration of this cultural activity as UNESCO's intangible heritage.
In 2021, Helena Barril was the first woman in the municipality of Miranda do Douro to be elected to the position of mayor with 54.15% of the votes.
At a time when information is more important than ever, support regional and local journalism. Access to most of VTM's news is (still) free, but it is not free of charge. Journalism costs money and requires investment. This contribution is a way of directly supporting A Voz de Trás-os-Montes and its journalists. Our contribution is independent and local journalism, but not only that. It is continuing to inform despite all the contingencies of confinement, without having stopped for a single day.
