Honey production decreased but quality was guaranteed

With 100 exhibitors, the 24th edition of the Honey and Crafts Fair took over the Pedras Salgadas Thermal Park. Most are from the municipality, showcasing and promoting local and authentic products.
Among the stands, 15 belonged to beekeepers, who reported experiencing reduced production in recent years. The culprits include the Asian hornet and inconsistent weather, such as this year's cold and rainy spring and very hot summer, coupled with wildfires, as food supplies dwindle and swarms shrink.
Even so, there was no shortage of honey at the event, and the quality was unaffected, explains Luís Rodrigues. "It's of good quality, customers say so and keep coming back," he highlights. However, he acknowledges that "we're producing less and less, and it's becoming more difficult to be a beekeeper and produce honey," which, on the other hand, means that the production "is automatically sold."
