Man who invaded school and took three children hostage is in preventive detention

The PSP of Leira informs that on Saturday, around 7 pm, in Leiria, a man, aged 37, was intercepted by the owner of a residence, inside it, without authorization.

The suspect entered the residence when there were only three minors, aged 17, 15 and 13, inside.

Taking advantage of the fact that the minors were alone in the aforementioned house, the suspect went to the kitchen, told them to sit down and then sat down in the place where there was a kitchen knife on the table, which caused them fear and panic.

One of the minors, despite this situation, managed to send a text message to his mother asking for help. She and her partner immediately went to the house and found the suspect sitting with the knife in front of him, managing to immobilize and handcuff him until the police arrived.

The suspect is connected to other criminal offenses, including home invasion, threats, sexual harassment, qualified theft, robbery, among others, committed in this city and in the city of Marinha Grande, the last of which occurred last Friday, when he entered a school and tried to entice a 16-year-old girl to perform sexual acts.

The suspect was arrested and brought before the judicial authority in Leiria, which revoked the coercive measure of daily presentations, referring to the crimes of robbery and qualified theft, committed in Marinha Grande, on January 19th, having applied the most serious coercive measure, preventive detention, to him. He was taken to the Leiria Prison Establishment.

This afternoon he was heard again at the Leiria Court, and the judge's decision is unknown.
