Masters showed how it's done in Coimbra's pools

José Carlos Freitas and Vânia Neves achieved the best performances in the 1500 meters of the Masters Long Distance Tournament – Coimbra 2025, which took place at the city's Olympic Swimming Complex. The competition also saw 17 national records broken (8 men's and 9 women's). Organized by the Portuguese Swimming Federation in partnership with Coimbra City Council and with the support of the Coimbra Swimming Association.
In the men's competition, José Carlos Freitas (Individual ANNP) completed the 1500 meters in 19.08.93 minutes, which gave the 62-year-old master swimmer the best score with 1156 points.
Olympian Pedro Pinotes, 36 years old, was the fastest with 17.47,17 which gave the Sporting player 894 points, and second place in the masters table.
The third best mark went to Jaime Bento (SAD-Algés e Dafundo) who, at 64 years old, finished in 21.27.02 (822 points).
Among the male record holders, reference is made to Luís Vidigal Salgueiro (SAD – Algés e Dafundo), 80 years old, who has achieved three Portuguese records in his category.
In the women's competition, nine (9) national records were broken, with emphasis on Luísa Bessone Basto (SAD) who achieved five maximums in her age group (80-84 years) during the 1500 meter race.
Vânia Neves stood out by achieving the best female time by completing the 1500 meters in 19.26,86 minutes (872 points). The Rio 2016 Olympian, now 35 years old, was followed by Gisela Coutinho (Fluvial Portuense), with 20.38,75 (807), and Maria Lucas (Litoral Alentejano), with 20.55,14 (750).
