PlatôBR: Red Card? The Request to Expel Romário from the PL

Federal Representative Gilvan da Silva (PL-ES) confirmed that he filed a request with the PL to expel Senator Romário (RJ) from the party. The reason is that the former player did not sign the impeachment request against Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, which was devised by the opposition in the Senate.
The deputy justifies the measure by claiming that Romário disobeyed an instruction from the opposition leader in the Senate, Carlos Portinho (PL-RJ), who had asked his allies to sign the request for Moraes' impeachment.
Gilvan da Federal told PlatôBR that he will meet with the party's president, Valdemar Costa Neto, to discuss the matter. "I want him (Romário) to at least explain himself," the congressman stated.
Sources close to Valdemar said he has not yet commented on the matter, and that the case has not yet been analyzed. Members of the PL in Rio de Janeiro believe the expulsion request will likely not go ahead, citing internal resistance to the measure.
Through his communications office, Romário said he would not comment.
Expelled Congressman The latest expulsion announced by the PL was that of Congressman Antônio Carlos Rodrigues. On July 31, the party announced in a statement its decision to dismiss him. The reason: the congressman's views in favor of Alexandre de Moraes and opposition to Donald Trump's offensive against the Supreme Court Justice. The expulsion, however, has not yet been finalized, as Rodrigues is in the process of presenting his defense.
