Ramón Díaz defends Corinthians' attacking style and highlights the difficulty of the Libertadores

Corinthians ' qualification for the third preliminary round of the Libertadores did not go as expected. The 3-2 victory over Universidad Central set off alarm bells for the fans, who feared they would be eliminated in the duel against the Venezuelans.
For coach Ramón Díaz, the match went as planned within the tournament. For the Argentine, the competition brings a type of greater pressure and demands, in addition to opponents that behave differently from those faced in Brazil.
"This is the type of match we had already talked about before the tournament started. It's completely different, much more pressure, the demands are very high. It's going to be like this until the end, just tough matches with teams completely different to the ones we face here in Brazil," he highlighted.
The coach also commented on the expectation of a more relaxed qualification. Ramón claimed that football is different and softened the criticism, stating that the atmosphere is calm, in addition to recalling the process that has been taking place at the club in recent months.
"There were those who said that we had to win 3-0 or 4-0. No, football is completely different. Here everything is calm, we are happy, because we have passed an important phase. It is the first match of the international competition that we have, with a team that was formed six months ago. They have been under a lot of pressure, but they have courage and a lot of determination", he pointed out.
Need to hold the gameOne of Corinthians' main mistakes in the match was not knowing how to manage their advantage on the scoreboard. On three occasions, Corinthians were ahead of the Venezuelans and allowed the tie. The coach emphasized that he leads an offensive team that needs to be more intelligent when defending.
"A team has to know how to defend itself after getting a result. Especially in a match. We have a team with very offensive characteristics, and we will have to be very attentive, work hard and be very intelligent when defending," he highlighted.
Search for balanceWithin the offensive dynamic, Ramón Díaz classified this as the greatest characteristic of his team. For the Argentine, changing the way of playing, with the available players, would change the identity of the club and highlighted that the team needs to find a balance to adjust defensively without giving up attacking.
"We are at a club where we have to play from midfield forward, we have to attack. We have the characteristics of players like Carrillo. The only player with a more defensive characteristic is the central midfielder. Breno is an attacker, Yuri is an attacker, Memphis is an attacker, Garro is an attacker. For me, it would be very easy to take them off and set up a defense with the characteristics of another team, but that is not what I feel, it is not what Corinthians needs to grow. We will find a balance, when we have to attack, when we have to defend, because it is an important point for us and for the club. We will try to correct that", he concluded.
