São Brás de Alportel now has a Municipal Health Council

With the aim of strengthening the participation of local agents in the definition of health policies, the Municipal Health Council of São Brás de Alportel was installed on Thursday, July 31, a new advisory body dedicated to promoting public health in the municipality.

With the mission of contributing to the definition of health policies in the municipality, this advisory body brings together representatives from various local and regional entities in the health and social action sector, strengthening networking and proximity to the real needs of the population.

Among its main functions, the São Brás de Alportel Municipal Health Council's mission is to participate in the definition of local health policies, issue opinions on the municipal health strategy and the planning of the primary care network, propose health promotion and disease prevention programs, encourage the sharing of information and cooperation between institutions, analyze the functioning of health services in the municipality and present proposals for a more effective response to the needs of the community.

Created under Decree-Law No. 23/2019, this body acts as a forum for coordination between different agents in the health sector, in a closer and more participatory governance model.

The formal installation of the Council included the inauguration of its members, including Vitor Guerreiro, president of the Municipal Council of São Brás de Alportel , who assumes the presidency of the body.

Representatives of the Municipal Assembly, the Parish Council, the Algarve Local Health Unit, private social solidarity institutions (IPSS), Social Security, among other entities involved in the sector, also took office.

Immediately following the ceremony, the first official meeting of the advisory body took place, with the agenda focused on approving the bylaws, reflecting on the Municipal Health Strategy, and identifying other entities to be involved in this forum.
