Seriously injured after being hit by unlocked van

According to Mondim de Basto Fire Department Commander Carlos Magalhães, the victim was "considered seriously injured and multiple times injured," and was evacuated by air to the Vila Real hospital. "After the victim was assessed by the Vila Real VMER doctor, the victim was considered seriously injured."

He added that the accident “occurred in the place of Pedreira, parish of Vilar de Ferreiros, municipality of Mondim de Basto.

The accident occurred during paving work on a ditch, “when the van apparently became unstuck, crushing the victim against the wall,” the commander said.

The alert for the firefighters occurred at 1:26 pm and 5 vehicles and 13 operatives from the Mondim de Basto Volunteer Firefighters, a GNR patrol from Mondim de Basto, the VMER team from Vila Real and the INEM North helicopter were called to the scene, for a total of 23 operatives supported by nine vehicles and one aircraft.
