Quintas ao Largo with “Mestra Ana Lúcia”
Largo do Poço
At 7:00 p.m.
The next " Quintas ao Largo " event takes place today and features Master Ana Lúcia. The artist is presented as "the voice and body of tradition, a woman of faith and celebration, a guardian of ancestral knowledge and rhythms."
In the Amaro Branco neighborhood of Olinda, she lives and teaches with her feet firmly planted in the coconut palm tree and her heart dedicated to her community. A Coco de Roda Master, leader of the Estrela de Belém pastoral and the Acorda Povo ritual, Mestra Ana transforms everyday life into celebration, resistance, and living memory. Born into a home where the coconut palm was heard as a prayer, a disciple of masters, and the mother of generations of artists, she established herself in a place historically denied to women.
She created groups, educated children, and overcame machismo with firmness and gentleness. In her backyard, with doors open to the world, she teaches with her voice, by example, and with the joy of her actions. A Living Heritage of Pernambuco, a renowned expert on popular culture, Mestra Ana holds the title of Living Culture of the City of Olinda. She is a mother, educator, and renowned artist, both within and outside her community.
The Quintas ao Largo cycle is part of the Verão a Dois Tempos initiative, a summer program with free access.
