Tesla delivered fewer cars in the second quarter of the year

Tesla delivered fewer cars in the second quarter of the year

Vehicle deliveries to consumers are a metric used to assess the performance of car manufacturers, and the situation is not looking good for Tesla. For the second consecutive quarter, Musk's company recorded a decline in the number of deliveries, to 443,956 units in the second quarter of 2025, 13.5% less than in the same period in 2024. Of the vehicles delivered, 97.3% were the popular Model 3 and Model Y.

Leading analysts had estimated a 10% drop in this segment, so the 13.5% drop puts Tesla in a worse position than expected.

Competition from rivals such as Ford, General Motors and Rivian or Chinese companies such as BYD is making its impact on Tesla's sales. On the other hand, consumers do not forgive Musk's close ties to Donald Trump, his role in DOGE, the department that triggered a series of funding cuts and layoffs in several organizations in the US, as well as his approach to far-right ideas, Gizmodo reports.

Despite the drop in deliveries, Tesla continued to produce more vehicles than before, at 410,244 units this quarter, roughly the same number as the previous quarter. This production suggests that Tesla is preparing for a return in demand in the near term.

On the other hand, Musk continues the strategy of repositioning Tesla, reinforcing that the brand is developing Artificial Intelligence, robotics and software solutions, trying to eliminate dependence on the sale of electric vehicles. Recently, the company has invested in the launch of an autonomous taxi service in the USA, something that has been met with mixed reactions.
