Two people rescued on Berlenga Island

Two people, aged 21 and 70, were rescued today from a maritime-tourist vessel that was on Berlenga Island, the National Maritime Authority (AMN) announced.
In a statement, AMN indicated that the rescues were carried out by the Peniche lifeguard station in two different periods – one was carried out at dawn and the other in the morning.
The alerts to carry out medical rescues were issued to help a 21-year-old man, "who reportedly had severe abdominal pain," according to the statement, and to help a 70-year-old man who fell while boarding the tourist boat.
The two were treated at the scene and transported to the port of Peniche, with the young man leaving the scene "under his own power." The 70-year-old man was taken to a hospital, as he "allegedly suffered a fractured shoulder blade," AMN added in a statement.
The Peniche lifeguard station was activated after alerts were received by the Urgent Patient Guidance Center (CODU) in Coimbra, which also activated members of the Peniche Volunteer Firefighters.
