Former President Jair Bolsonaro's lawyers tried to have the witnesses' testimonies to the Supreme Court postponed. The argument was that the amount of evidence in the case is too large and there are technical difficulties in downloading all the material.
The request came after Moraes granted Bolsonaro full access to evidence from the investigation.
The request, however, was denied and the hearings are maintained.
After hearing witnesses, the Supreme Court will schedule the interrogation of the defendantsThe testimony of witnesses in the criminal case involving the alleged coup will be conducted by assistant judges from the office of Justice Alexandre de Moraes. All hearings will be held via videoconference and will be attended by the defense attorneys of the accused and representatives of the Attorney General's Office (PGR). Everyone, including the assistant judge, may ask questions of the witnesses.
Once all witnesses have been heard, Moraes must schedule the defendants' interrogations. Each procedure is part of the stages of the criminal proceedings that, in the end, will decide whether the defendants are guilty or innocent. This final judgment will be carried out by the First Chamber of the STF.
