Albufeira debuts Baltum Festival to celebrate local Heritage and Identity

The Baltum Festival is the new venture of the municipality of Albufeira, scheduled to premiere between the 24th and 27th of July, with the motto “Celebrate and (Re)Discover Albufeira”.
The event restores Albufeira's name during the Roman period, and aims to surprise visitors in every street and corner of the city.
To this end, it has an extensive and diverse program, which takes place at 19 locations throughout the city, with various music concerts, as well as performances and artistic installations, and entry is free.
The first edition of the Baltum Festival was presented on Tuesday, June 24th, at Miradouro do Pau da Bandeira.
It was there that the full programme of the event was revealed, which brings to Albufeira some of the most renowned names in the music scene. Headlining the line-up are artists such as Gisela João (24), Orquestra Ligeira do Exército with Katia Guerreiro (25), Tito Paris (26), and also the French band Les Fo'Plafonds (27), who are performing on Portuguese soil for the first time.
The headliners' performances will take place at Praça dos Pescadores, which will be one of the many locations to host performances.
Also noteworthy is the Church of S. Sebastião, which welcomes the Galician duo Caamaño&Ameixeiras (24), the Ukrainian artist Ganna (25), the Portuguese DJs Beatbombers (26), and closes with a performance by Emmy Curl (27).
The presentation session of the Baltum Festival was attended by the Mayor of Albufeira .
José Carlos Rolo explained that the objective is to “celebrate local identity and raise awareness of Albufeira’s historical and cultural heritage”.
The mayor expressed confidence in the success of the first edition of the event, which “is further proof that Albufeira now has a leading cultural programme”.
The presentation of the complete program was carried out by the Head of the Tourism, Economic and Cultural Development Division of the Municipality of Albufeira, Carla Ponte.
Before going into detail about the various moments of the programme, the director explained that the event will seek to “show an Albufeira that is not always known, and surprise people”.
The first edition of the Baltum Festival will take place between the 24th and 27th of July, in the historic part of the city of Albufeira. In addition to musical performances, the event will feature several other activities, with emphasis on crafts, street arts and multimedia installations.
During the event, several municipal facilities will be open to the public, free of charge.
