Angola and Boeing sign agreement for TAAG

Angola and Boeing have signed an agreement for TAAG, the Angolan airline, to accelerate the modernization and competitiveness of the national aviation industry, the Ministry of Transport announced this Wednesday.

According to a statement from the Angolan Ministry of Transport, the strategic cooperation memorandum was signed during the Paris International Aeronautics and Space Show “Paris Air Show”.

The document establishes a framework for collaboration between Boeing and TAAG Linhas Aéreas de Angola, defining strategic areas, such as initiatives to increase operational efficiency through digital transformation, strengthen technical and maintenance capabilities, optimize and expand route networks and markets, and support the modernization and growth of the national fleet.

“This cooperation is also in line with the ministry’s commitment to fostering capacity building and innovation in the air transport sector in Angola, while ensuring solid international partnerships that benefit the country’s long-term development objectives,” it is highlighted.

According to Angola’s Minister of Transport, Ricardo de Abreu, TAAG “has been a cornerstone in the African aviation landscape since its founding in 1938”.

“As we navigate the complexities of a rapidly changing global marketplace, it is essential that the company not only maintains its competitive advantage, but also embraces innovation and modernization,” said Ricardo de Abreu, quoted in the statement.

For the minister, the partnership with Boeing represents an important step in Angola's commitment to strengthening operational capabilities, improving technical and maintenance capacity, as well as expanding its reach.

“By investing in modern technologies and practices, we aim to position TAAG Linhas Aéreas de Angola as a leading airline in Africa, capable of responding to the demands of today's travelers and, at the same time, contributing to Angola's economic diversification and growth,” the minister stressed.

The Angolan leader also stated that, together with the significant investment in the new international airport — Dr. António Agostinho Neto Airport —, the Angolan Government is laying the foundations for a “prosperous and sustainable” future for the national aviation sector.

For Boeing's senior vice president of Commercial Aviation Sales and Marketing, Brad McMullen, the partnership reaffirms Boeing's commitment to supporting the growth of the national sector and the continued expansion of TAAG Linhas Aéreas de Angola's capabilities.

“We look forward to continuing more than 75 years of supporting commercial aviation in Africa ,” said Brad McMullen.

Currently, around 70% of Africa’s commercial fleet is made up of Boeing aircraft, operated by more than 60 airlines. According to the Boeing Commercial Market Outlook, Africa will need more than 1,000 new aircraft over the next two decades to meet growing demand.
