Book Fair took a «big leap» in Rossio

The 2025 edition of the Book Fair was inaugurated yesterday in Rossio, a space that has hosted the event for the second consecutive year and has given it a new lease of life. After having been held in places such as the Manuel Firmino Market and Praça da República in recent years, Aveiro City Council decided, in 2024, to move it to the restored Rossio, which has undergone a major transformation and been converted into a space to host events. “We wanted to make the fair grow and it took a big leap forward when it came to Rossio”, said the mayor, Ribau Esteves, at the official opening ceremony yesterday afternoon. After the fair had “stepped up a level” in the previous edition, the municipality maintained its commitment to the city’s central square, which was recently refurbished under a project that cost the city’s coffers 20.5 million euros. Previously, the event was held at the Manuel Firmino Market, an “unexpected location” chosen at a time when the municipal administration had to be financially “restrained”, and then at Praça da República, in editions in which it was very close to the municipal library, which had since been installed in the Fernando Távora Building.
