Documentary «Is There an Ear?!» premieres in São Brás de Alportel

Documentary «Is There an Ear?!» premieres in São Brás de Alportel

The documentary «Há Espiga?!» is scheduled to premiere on June 4th, at 6:30 pm, at the Museu do Traje de São Brás de Alportel. Before that, it will be shown in preview on May 28th, at 9 pm, at the Jardim de Infância de Mealhas, in an open-air session. Both screenings are free and include moments of open conversation with the spectators.

Directed by Ana Beatriz Bernardo de Jesus, the film delves into the history and community strength of the traditional Festa da Espiga, celebrated on Ascension Thursday. The tradition began spontaneously in a tavern in Mealhas and, after a hiatus, was revived by the local kindergarten, becoming an intergenerational celebration involving children, teachers, assistants, parents, neighbors and grandparents.

The documentary brings together testimonies from people aged between 3 and 81, showing how the festival represents a link between generations and a symbol of cultural resistance in the school and local community.

«Há Espiga?!» was produced within the scope of the project «Fui atrás», organized by the Barro I Cal Association and financed by the Municipal Council and Parish Council of São Brás de Alportel, as well as by the Institute of Sport and Youth (IPDJ).

It also has the support of the José Belchior Viegas School Group, the Santa Casa da Misericórdia, the Costume Museum and Monte da Ribeira – Agrotourism.
