This is a project by the MiratecArts association, in partnership with the municipality of Lajes, and whose fourth edition opens with the new film by Cláudio Jordão, 'Vasco da Gama - The Infinite Sea', according to a press release released by the organization.
"The festival has the theme of water, the seas and oceans that surround us," said the artistic director of MiratecArts and founder of LAVADIAS, Terry Costa, quoted in the same note.
The fourth edition opens with the new film by Cláudio Jordão, 'Vasco da Gama - The Infinite Sea', which after its premiere at the AVANCA festival last week, now arrives on the island of Pico.
According to MiratecArts, the film revisits Vasco da Gama's sea voyage to India, crossing the Atlantic and Indian Oceans, "braving stormy seas on one of the most famous voyages in history." The first night of the festival is also dedicated to short films, with works by Fu Le, Joana Saraiva Marques, and Salvador Lobo Xavier, among others.
'The Terror in the Deep', by Australian Matthew Holmes, fills the night with action, while on the night dedicated to the family there will be the opportunity to watch Gints Zilbalodis' Oscar-winning animated film, 'Flow'.
All sessions are free and start at 9:30 pm local time (10:30 pm in Lisbon) and the public is invited to bring blankets, quilts or pillows to enjoy the open-air cinema in greater comfort, the organization added.
