New Brazilian literary prize will distribute 30 thousand euros to authors

In a statement, the prize organizers announced that interested writers and reading agents from Brazil, Portugal, Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde and São Tomé and Príncipe can register in the categories of novel, short story, poetry, cover, graphic design and reading incentive for free, on the prize website, as well as in the Brasília Prize, for authors from this region.
Created by the Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy of the Federal District, in Brazil, the Candango Literary Prize has a partnership with the Camões Institute, Casa de Angola and embassies of countries in the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP), which expands the international reach of the initiative.
The coordination is by the Casa de Autores Institute (ICA), curated by the São Paulo writer João Anzanello Carrascoza.
The winners of the categories for best novel, short story book and poetry book will receive 35 thousand reais (5.5 thousand euros). The same amount will be given to the winner of the Brasília Prize category, which is only for authors born or living in the Federal District, where the city of Brasília, the capital of Brazil, is located.
The winners of the categories for best graphic design and best cover will receive 20 thousand reais (3.1 thousand euros) each.
There is also a prize of 15 thousand reais (2.3 thousand euros) for initiatives to encourage reading, which will choose the best reading project.
Registrations must be made on the award website, by sending PDF files containing the identity document, copy of the work, mandatory declarations and, in the case of pedagogical projects, a detailed portfolio.
The organizers announced that the selection will be conducted by a technical team of 45 literature professionals --- 30 in the first stage and 15 in the final stage. The names of the judges will be announced after the awards ceremony.
In return, the winners of the literary and editorial categories must donate 20 copies of the winning works to public libraries in the Federal District.
The winners of the pedagogical axis will offer online training of at least four hours.
The winners will be announced at a special event on October 31, at Sala Martins Pena at Teatro Nacional Cláudio Santoro, in Brasília.
