New Film Club Unites Gândara and Bairrada

The first General Assembly of the newly created CineClube Gândara Bairrada (CCGB) took place on June 30th, marking the official start of a new cultural structure that promises to boost access to cinema in the Gândara and Bairrada regions by the end of 2025. During the session, the Social Bodies were elected and the main areas of activity of the CineClube, which will be based at Espaço Inovação, in Mealhada, were defined. The CCGB was born from the initiative of a group of local cultural promoters, aiming to decentralize access to the 7th Art, promoting cinema as a means of education, creation, dialogue, and inclusion. The project aims to network and develop activities involving film education, production, and dissemination, focusing on valuing local communities and fostering new audiences.
Social Bodies elected unanimously The CineClube Board of Directors will be chaired by Paulo Fajardo, with André Maia as Vice President and Carla Maia as Treasurer. The General Assembly will be led by Ana Pires, with Gil Ferreira as Vice President and Vítor Glória Soares as Secretary. The Fiscal Council will be comprised of Vasco Espinhal Otero (President), Paulo Perdiz (Vice President), and Justino Melo (Member).
Opening session brings a cinema classic to Cineteatro Messias To mark the official launch of its activities, the CCGB will host its first public screening on July 17th, at 9:30 pm, at the Cineteatro Messias, in Mealhada. The chosen film is "Aurora" (Sunrise), a landmark silent film directed by F.W. Murnau in 1927. Winner of three Oscars, this classic revolutionized cinematic language by exploring the limits of visual storytelling during a period of transition to sound cinema. The screening is part of the Cinema Meetings in Mealhada program, promoted by the Municipality of Mealhada, with the support of CCGB and Aderno, and will be open to the public.
With this initiative, CineClube Gândara Bairrada takes its first steps towards realizing its mission: to make cinema more accessible, participatory and present in the cultural daily life of the Gândara and Bairrada communities.
