New parliament to meet on Tuesday

The publication, this Saturday, in the Official Gazette of the official map with the results of the legislative elections of May 18th determines that the first meeting of the Assembly of the Republic of the new legislature will take place on Tuesday , June 3rd.
After the publication of the official map in the Official Gazette, “the Assembly of the Republic meets by right on the third day after the determination of the general election results”, as established in article 173 of the Constitution.
Next Tuesday was already the likely date set for the start of the new legislature, with a leaders' conference called for Monday at 3:30 pm , the eve of the first plenary session of the 17th legislature.
As usual, the first plenary meeting will be divided into two parts, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. At 10:00 a.m., the draft resolution to establish the Ad-hoc Committee for Verification of the Powers of the elected deputies will be read and voted on, consisting of seven PSD deputies, five PS deputies and five Chega deputies. Iniciativa Liberal, Livre, PCP and CDS will each nominate one deputy for this committee.
On the same day, proceedings will resume at 3:00 p.m. to read the report and vote on the opinion of the Verification of Powers Committee. This will be followed by a vote on a draft resolution to extend the normal operating period of the Assembly of the Republic until July 25, with the last plenary session before the summer recess to be held on July 18. Under constitutional terms, the normal operating period of the Assembly of the Republic is until June 15.
The first session is also expected to see the election of the President of the Assembly of the Republic — the current president, José Pedro Aguiar-Branco (PSD), has already expressed his willingness to run again — and the remaining members of the parliament, consisting of vice-presidents, secretaries and deputy secretary. The Board of Directors of the Assembly of the Republic is also expected to be elected.
