Payments of 82.3 million to accelerate transition

The Environmental Fund, overseen by the Ministry of Environment and Energy, paid 82.3 million euros at the end of May to projects to accelerate the climate and energy transition, according to a report released this Monday.
In a statement, the Ministry of Environment and Energy highlights, in the implementation of the environmental component of the Recovery and Resilience Program (RRP) , the payment of 5.7 million euros for the execution of projects in the field of water resources, or 4.3 million within the scope of the RRP notice in the area of sustainable bioeconomy. Or even 6 million euros for the promotion of the circular bioeconomy and innovation in the footwear sector, and more than 1.7 million euros for energy efficiency projects in residential buildings.
Also noteworthy is the 36.6 million euros in support for public transport throughout the country, “contributing to more sustainable mobility and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions”, says the Government. “This financial performance reinforces the robust execution trajectory of the Ministry of Environment and Energy, which has led the mobilization of PRR funds for areas such as climate, energy, water, biodiversity and the circular economy”, the statement says.
Quoted in the document, the Minister of Environment and Energy, Maria da Graça Carvalho, states: “We are implementing the RRP and the Environmental Fund with ambition, results on the ground and a focus on what improves people's lives. These payments are not just numbers: they are investments that translate into cheaper travel expenses, more efficient homes, more resilient territories and innovation that creates jobs and value in the country”.
Since last week, the Climate Agency has been coordinating programs financed through the Environmental Fund and the PRR.
