PJ arrested woman suspected of setting four fires in Oleiros

The Judicial Police (PJ) arrested a 44-year-old woman suspected of four forest fire crimes that occurred at the beginning of the month, in the Oleiros area, Castelo Branco district.

"The fires were started using a lighter in a large forested area close to homes, and only prevented them from becoming more serious due to the swift intervention of Orvalho's volunteer firefighters," the PJ explained in a statement. The alleged perpetrator of the four forest fires was identified and detained by the Center's Directorate .

During this period, conditions of maximum fire risk were observed , with temperatures hovering around 35°C and low relative humidity, conducive to causing large fires. The woman will be brought in for her initial judicial interrogation and enforcement measures.

During the investigation, the PJ had the collaboration of the Working Group for the Reduction of Ignitions in Rural Areas in the Center, the Nature and Environmental Protection Service of the GNR of Sertã and the GNR of Oleiros.
