Those accused of murdering a businessman are informed of the agreement.

The reading of the judgment in the trial of the two men accused of killing a businessman in 2019 in Albufeira, takes place this Tuesday in Portimão, with the Public Prosecutor's Office (MP) requesting the conviction of one and the acquittal of the other.

In the closing arguments of the jury trial, which took place at the Portimão Court, the Public Prosecutor's Office requested an 11-year prison sentence for Igor Lopes, 40, in pre-trial detention, and the acquittal of Aldair Silva, 43, who is free.

The two men are accused of aggravated murder and failure to provide assistance to the businessman, owner of a Berlin ball factory, crimes that occurred at the establishment, located in Patã de Baixo, in Albufeira.

The defense attorneys requested the acquittal of the two defendants, with Igor Lopes' defense invoking the principle in dubio pro reo , which arises from the constitutional presumption of innocence, consisting of the fact that, in case of doubt, the court decides in favor of the defendant.

Last April, at the start of the trial, the Public Prosecutor's Office considered that the defendants had outlined a plan to steal money from the factory , where Aldair Silva worked, and which had a daily turnover of between 10 and 15 thousand euros.

According to the prosecution, the defendants entered the establishment with the intention of stealing "a sum of money," where they encountered 66-year-old businessman José de Sousa and killed him. They then allegedly stole 16,000 euros and various items.

In his closing arguments, the Public Prosecutor's Office justified his request for conviction, claiming that "it may be difficult" for the court to understand that the defendants had acted with the intention to kill.

The reading of the judgment is scheduled for 2:00 pm at the Portimão Court, in the district of Faro.
