As the second weekend of the legendary Tomorrowland festival takes place in the Belgian city of Boom, which has 400,000 people spread over six days (each weekend), Tomorrowland spokesperson Debby Wilmsen confirms to the Lusa news agency that the festival will be held in Brazil, from August 10 to 12 at Maeda Park, in Itu, about 100 kilometers from São Paulo.
"The main stage is already there and we can start building [the structure] after we finish here. Ticket sales are still ongoing, but I think one day is already sold out and the rest are almost sold out, so the festival is going very well [in Brazil]," says Debby Wilmsen.
Tomorrowland Brasil has been officially taking place since 2015, but has had some interruptions, particularly between 2017 and 2022, due to unfeasible conditions and then due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
It has been taking place again since 2023, but that edition was marked by intense rains that affected the local infrastructure, leading to the suspension of one day out of three.
In 2024, Tomorrowland Brazil took place normally and that is what the organization hopes for this year's edition, which takes place under the theme of "Life", a magical world of nature and in which 180 thousand festival-goers are expected over three days.
Debby Wilmsen explains to Lusa that electronic music "is still very niche" in Brazil, despite being very popular in Europe.
"Not all radio stations play electronic music, but there are some great artists in Brazil like Alok and Vintage Culture. So it's a new business and a new style of festival," explains the Tomorrowland spokesperson.
Furthermore, "what is also very attractive to the Brazilian public is our campsite, because going to a festival and camping there is something very new," he adds.
Tomorrowland Brasil promises, therefore, "due to the type of music and the type of festival", to bring "something that hasn't been done before to São Paulo", Debby Wilmsen told Lusa.
The second weekend of the Tomorrowland electronic music festival kicked off on Friday in the Belgian city of Boom, and today features a performance by Portuguese artist Diego Miranda, following incidents including a fire on the main stage, which occurred two days before the opening.
In an interview with Lusa news agency before the performance, the Portuguese DJ said that today he would repeat the dream he fulfilled several years ago of playing at the Tomorrowland electronic music festival in Belgium, which gave him "international visibility" and attracts "growing enthusiasm" from Portuguese and Brazilian festival-goers.
The festival is known as "Disneyland for adults."
