China's economy grows 5.2%

The Chinese economy grew 5.2% year-on-year in the second quarter of the year. Compared to the previous quarter, the world's second-largest economy expanded 1.1%, and in the first half of the year, China's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew 5.3%.
According to official data released this Tuesday by the National Statistics Office (GNE), one of the main drivers of growth was exports, despite the context of escalating trade war with the US.
On Monday, Chinese authorities announced that overseas sales rose 5.8% in June compared to the same month last year, accelerating from 4.8% in May.
The temporary easing of punitive tariffs on Chinese goods in the US, as part of the resumption of trade negotiations between the two countries, led to a sudden increase in orders from businesses and consumers.
Chinese companies have also sought to diversify their export destinations and increase production in other countries as a way to mitigate the impact of tariffs imposed by Washington.
"Overall, with the implementation of more proactive and effective macroeconomic policies, the national economy maintained stable growth, with good dynamics, demonstrating resilience and vitality," reads the GNE report, cited by the Lusa news agency.
